Priority 2: Sustainable growth, high quality employment opportunities and increased vocational training in rural priority sectors including land based, food and drink, equestrian, visitor economy, creative and knowledge-based.

Key activity for this priority has been:

  • The Leicester and Leicestershire Food Fortnight 2012 was successfully promoted and delivered.
  • Business consultation and a report was completed on the Leicestershire Meat Supply Chain and the resulting recommendations are moving forward.
  • A demand and feasibility study into a Food Enterprise Centre has been commissioned.
  • The Rural Capital Grants Programme was launched - £300K over three years has been secured from Leicestershire County Council capital funds. In 2012-13 seven projects totalling £76,000 were supported.
  • A Tourism Board was established and a delivery plan for 2013-14 drafted.
