The Shepshed scheme is of particular interest because of the on-going nature of the initiative and the additional steps being taken to reduce excessive speed in the town.

Speeding was identified as a major issue in Shepshed through the Community Plan Questionnaire in 2010. There is still a core group of 16 Speed Watch volunteers plus 10 Steering group members, the first CSW took place in 2010 and the group have just completed another CSW scheme last month.

The information is used to help focus police enforcement, and as evidence to present to Highways should the areas be considered for traffic schemes in the future.

The group submitted a successful funding application to the Community Forums Participatory budgets in 2011 for a Speed Indicator Device.

RDF Television is producing a new BBC1 series called Fight Back Britain. The series will feature individuals and groups that are fighting back against crime and anti-social behaviour in their communities. The producers are keen to feature the Community Speed Watch scheme as a positive example of people coming together to tackle a problem.

The programme will be aired in late July 2013.
