East Leicestershire LEADER is open for Expressions of Interest for Rural Services or Forestry projects.

Before considering whether to apply, you should ensure your business is within the East Leicestershire LEADER area. This includes all of Melton and Harborough Districts and parts of Charnwood and Blaby Districts. You can check this using our handy post code checker, which can be found on the East Leicestershire LEADER homepage.

Support for micro and small businesses (non-agricultural) and farm diversification. (Not for Tourism or Food and Drink Projects) Grants of between £7,500 - £75,000 (closed)

What are we looking for?

East Leicestershire LEADER is looking for projects that will contribute to achieving the local priorities and boost the economy of the area. In all cases projects must show they provide economic growth. Examples of this could be:

  • Creating jobs
  • Bringing additional visitors to the area
  • Benefitting other local businesses

When preparing an application you should think about what outputs can be achieved as a direct result of the project.

Who Can Apply?

Applications can be made by farmers, growers, foresters, other local rural businesses and rural community organisations who are in the East Leicestershire LEADER area. They can be:

  • private businesses;
  • public organisations;
  • voluntary organisations; or
  • someone who wants to start a business.

Applicants must be a 'legal entity' and able to sign a legally binding contract.

Projects must be within the East Leicestershire LEADER Area.

How Much is Available?

  • Grants of between £2,500 - £75,000 are available
  • In most cases LEADER can fund up to 40% of a project's eligible costs

Examples of Eligible Costs

  • Investments in machinery and equipment
  • construction or building costs

  • Construction costs
  • Purchase of equipment or machinery
  • Processing and marketing of products
  • Acquisition of patents, licences, copyrights, trademarks
  • Capital costs for supporting events/festivals

IMPORTANT: If you are looking to purchase equipment for a farming or forestry productivity project, please read the below list of eligible and ineligible items:

Ineligible costs

  • standard agricultural equipment
  • animals and annual crops
  • costs of consents or planning permission
  • financial charges
  • like-for-like replacements
  • salaries and running costs
  • licence fees and service charges
  • moveable fixtures and fittings e.g. furniture, curtains
