Helping others to find ways to keep their homes warm through better energy management and insulation.

The Energy Champions project is provided as part of the 4 Ways to Warmth campaign designed to help vulnerable people to find ways to keep their homes warm through better energy management, insulation and access to free support and grants for energy efficiency. Advice is also provided on the best tariff to ensure that people save money on energy bills.

Energy Champions participate in a half day training course which provides information:

  • to help them to Identify those suffering or bordering on fuel poverty.
  • to help others to find ways to keep their homes warm through better energy management and insulation.
  • on free support and grants for energy efficiency and how to access these.
  • on how to ensure people save money on energy bills.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE

  • Delivered 8 Energy Champion sessions at different venues across the county.
  • Equipped each energy champion with an information /resource pack to help spread the message.
  • Created a database of Energy Champions and sent regular updates on energy efficiency and changes to benefits via email bulletins.
  • Held an Energy Champions follow up networking event to enable them to receive updates on welfare reform, renewable energy and debt advice.
  • Introduced an item on Green Deal and Renewable Energy to Energy Champions

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED

  • 73 Energy Champions including frontline workers and community volunteers have now been recruited.
  • Energy Champions have been able to signpost clients to support services e.g. Green Deal assessments
  • Clients have received direct support via an initial enquiry to an Energy Champion, and champions have spread the message by leafleting the community or attending local events to provide information
