Some young people in Heather had previously been accused of vandalism and graffiti but decided to do something about it themselves.

Although at first some thought that no-one would listen to them and that they couldn’t change anything, with help from the RCC and Leicestershire County Council the Heather Youth Group was established. Working together they secured over £50,000 for a sports pitch, playground equipment and a youth shelter with solar-powered lighting and radio.

In addition two members of the group now regularly attend parish council meetings to debate young peoples’ issues.
