The Big Society Rural Advice Service is delivered by Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Community Council on behalf of the LRP and Leicestershire County Council.

The service provides support and advice to Leicestershire rural communities via telephone and email, where more in-depth support is required face to face meetings and consultations may be held.

Advice can be sought and obtained on 'Big Society' related issues affecting rural communities including areas such as project development, sharing best practice, sources of funding, guidance on community consultation / action planning and project development .

The service offers web and online based toolkits and case study examples, as well as signposting and liaison with partners.

The service also introduces and promotes new initiatives related to the 'Big Society' agenda.

Community need is identified and relevant training and support is offered to groups to help them achieve their Big Society goals

In 2012/13 the project continued to successfully inform the future needs of Leicestershire's rural communities and provide two way communication between volunteers in the community and support services.

The web service was developed with the addition of several toolkits and case study examples from local community projects e.g. Big Society, climate change initiatives, renewable heat, Neighbourhood Planning an d other community led plans.

The service was successfully marketed and received excellent take up answering over 1000 telephone and email enquiries and holding over 250 face to face meetings. Two rural advice sessions were delivered and a successful Big Society event was held where over 60 delegates received presentations by communities showing examples of best practice and highlighting key partners to work with.
